Welcome to the online press kit for Dr. Jennifer R. Levin
Expert in Sudden and Traumatic Grief | Author of 'The Traumatic Loss Workbook'
Dr. Jennifer R. Levin helps individuals and organizations navigate the unimaginable.
Dr. Jennifer R. Levin, PhD, LMFT, FT is a nationally recognized grief and trauma expert specializing in sudden or unexpected death. Whether caused by suicide, violence, medical crisis, overdose, or accident, traumatic loss shatters lives — and most grief support systems aren’t built to address it. That’s why Dr. Levin wrote “The Traumatic Loss Workbook: Powerful Skills for Navigating the Grief Caused by a Sudden or Unexpected Death” (New Harbinger Publications, July 1, 2025).
This groundbreaking workbook blends cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, narrative therapy, and emotional regulation to help readers rebuild their world after loss — offering practical tools for managing grief attacks, processing trauma, and finding meaning again.
Through her businesses, Traumatic Grief Solutions (for organizations) and Therapy Heals, Inc. (for individuals), Dr. Levin supports workplaces, schools, and communities with crisis response, training, and grief-informed leadership.
“Jennifer Levin’s workbook provides guidance and assurance: You are not alone. You can find your way through grief and uncertainty.”
— Donna Schuurman, EdD, Dougy Center, The National Grief Center for Children & Families
Podcaster, Consultant, Founder
Jennifer R. Levin, PhD, LMFT, FT is the founder of Traumatic Grief Solutions (a consultancy providing crisis support and grief leadership training to schools, companies, and nonprofits) and Therapy Heals, Inc. (a private therapy practice supporting individuals living with sudden or unexpected loss). A licensed therapist for over 13 years and a Fellow in Thanatology, Dr. Levin has supported people through the grief of suicide, overdose, medical trauma, natural disasters, and more.
She is the host of the podcast “Untethered: Healing the Pain From a Sudden Death,” and author of “The Traumatic Loss Workbook” — a deeply compassionate, evidence-based resource for survivors. She speaks nationally on grief, trauma, post-traumatic growth, and the hidden cost of unsupported loss in the workplace.
Fellow in Thanatology
With 30+ years experience in thanatology, the study of death, dying and bereavement, Dr. Levin is one of fewer than 300 mental health professionals worldwide recognized as a Fellow in Thanatology — the highest professional credential in the field. Her singular focus is on traumatic grief — the kind that results from a sudden or unexpected death, such as from suicide, accident, overdose, or rapid medical event. This sets her apart from traditional grief therapists and positions her as a trusted expert in the media and clinical communities alike.
Through her therapy practice, Therapy Heals, Inc., Dr. Levin offers compassionate, trauma-informed care rooted in both evidence-based psychology and the science of thanatology. She specializes in holding hope when clients feel none and helps them move from raw trauma toward a life that still holds meaning. Over the years, she has developed a unique treatment model and practical clinical tools that blend emotional regulation, CBT, mindfulness, and meaning-making to support post-traumatic growth.
In professional and organizational settings, Dr. Levin works through her consultancy, Traumatic Grief Solutions (TGS). She has created a proprietary five-step model for proactive planning and crisis response specific to traumatic grief in the workplace. She helps business leaders, HR professionals, schools, and nonprofits prepare for and respond to sudden loss with structure, confidence, and care. Her work reduces long-term disruption, fosters psychological safety, and transforms how organizations show up in times of tragedy.
Traumatic Loss Workbook
“The Traumatic Loss Workbook: Powerful Skills for Navigating the Grief Caused by a Sudden or Unexpected Death” offers a first-of-its-kind guide specifically created for those navigating grief after a sudden or traumatic loss. Whether the loss was due to suicide, overdose, accident, medical crisis, or violent event, this book addresses the unique emotional, psychological, and physiological challenges that arise in the aftermath.
The workbook is organized into 12 skill-building chapters that gently guide readers through trauma stabilization, emotional regulation, grief integration, and meaning-making. Early chapters help readers understand the nature of traumatic grief, process their shattered assumptions, and regain a sense of safety and control. Later chapters explore grief attacks, anniversaries, long-term triggers, and how to rebuild a meaningful life in the presence of ongoing pain. Key tools include trauma symptom assessments, guided journaling, grief goal setting, and exercises that can be done solo or with a therapist.
A licensed therapist for almost 14 years, Dr. Levin hosts the podcast “Untethered: Healing the Pain From a Sudden Death,” which explores how individuals move forward after unimaginable loss. Based on Whidbey Island, Washington, she works nationally as a speaker, educator, and crisis responder. Her mission is to help people feel seen, supported, and empowered to live with their loss — not in spite of it, but alongside it.
